Clusters of sky blue stars in late spring. Deep green thread leaf feathery foliage waits until Fall to strut its stuff, turning bright rich yellow. General Information:
Amsonia are low maintenance mid-western and southern natives that are easy to grow and unbothered by pests or insects. Plants are fairly drought tolerant once established. Exceptional fall foliage color extends the appeal. Adapts to most conditions. Becomes leggy in too much shade.
Plant Care:
Easy to grow, best in a moist, slightly acidic soil. Shear back by one third after flowering to maintain a more compact plant. Snap off mature seed pods to prevent over seeding. Blue Stars will readily cross pollinate with other amsonias nearby. Clumps can be divided in spring but this is generally not needed for 6 years or more.
